Title:
MONTBLANC: No. 7 Long Safety Fountain Pen, Black Hard Rubber, Large Size, Snake Accommodation Clip, Rare

Author:
Montblanc

Place:
Germany

Publisher:

Date:
1920-1928

Description:
No. 7 Long black hard rubber safety pen, quite large, "SIMPLO" imprint on barrel, "MONT BLANC" emblem on cap, inset white captop star, snake accommodation clip. 142mm. Large 14K gold No. 7 SIMPLO heart-vent nib, nice flex. Excellent condition, imprints clear, clean white captop star with no crazing. An outstanding example of this seldom-seen Montblanc safety pen, which is significantly scarcer than the standard-sized No. 7 safety pen (indeed, the No. 7 Long is not listed in Stefan Wallrafen and Jens Rösler's comprehensive reference book on vintage Montblancs). The uncommon Montblanc snake clip lends additional interest to this curious rarity.

-Wallrafen, Stefan & Jens Rösler. Collectible Stars I: Montblanc 1908-1947. [Cologne: 2014], pp. 50-51. Only the regular No. 7 is pictured. The regular No. 7 has a scarcity rating of 10 (on 12-point scale), indicating "up to 25 may exist". The No. 7 Long is not listed in the book and can be presumed to be a good deal scarcer.

-Lambrou, Andreas. Fountain Pens of the World. [Epping: 2005]. See pp. 256-257; the No. 7 Long is pictured with 18 other scarce and magnificent safeties (including a No. 12 "Goliath"), but it is the only one described as "rare".
