From the library of abolitionist Rev. R. Walsh, author of Notices of Brazil in 1828 and 1829. This copy had been presented to him by the author: "To Dr. Walsh with the respects of the author" in Rio de Janeiro [date trimmed]. From title page: "Descriptions of the natural scenery, and remarks on the manners and customs of the inhabitants; an account of Lord Byron's visit in the British frigate Blonde, and of an excursion to the Great Volcano of Kirauea in Hawaii"

Handwritten note of provenance on trimmed flyleaf reads: "This book was given to me at Rio de Janeiro by the author & dined with him & the officers of the American Squadron, at the house of the American Minister W. Tudor. They were on their way to the Sandwich Islands where Mr. Stewart intended to remain as a Missionary. I procured for him before his departure, a quantity of seeds of Brazilian plants to sow in the islands...[Inscription trimmed at foot].
