79. pp. With illustrations by Greda Guttman. (8vo), black cloth, spine lettered in silver, original dust jacket designed by Greda Guttman. One of about 400 copies. First Edition.
Inscribed by Leonard Cohen in the year of publication on the front free endpaper: "To Gery Levy, / with best wishes, / Leonard Cohen / May 1956." Very scarce early presentation copy of the revered poet/singer-songwriter's first book.
About 400 copies were printed, sponsored by McGill & edited by Louis Dudek, to present "the work of young writers at McGill of outstanding ability." The book was published when Cohen was 22, containing poems written largely when Cohen was between the ages of 15 and 20, and Cohen dedicated the book to his late father.
