Haas after Ludwig Emil Grimm. (8vo) 12.8x10 cm (5x4"), modern half leatherette & marbled boards, slipcase. First Complete Edition [i.e. 2nd edition of Vols. 1 & 2, 1st edition of Vol. 3].

Rare First Complete Edition of the most famous of all fairy tale compilations, significantly revised from the original publication (1812-1815).  Beginning with this 2nd edition, the stories underwent considerable editing to make the tales more acceptable and accessible to the general public. Some of more gruesome stories were simply deleted, while others incorporated more variants and sources and/or became more literary in style. Additionally, an important and  extensive set of notes and commentaries was added to the work. The work went through seven editions during the lifetime of the Grimm brothers. The first edition of this work is excessively rare, and for most collectors this second edition is realistically the earliest obtainable.
