xii, 245 pp. Illustrated with 26 plates: with 6 photogravures including frontispiece portrait of Edmund Hegan Kennard, with tissue guards, an etching of the Club House and lithograph map of the Blackheath Golf Links, plus others from photos of portraits, various medals and trophies, etc. And, several other illustrations within the text. 9½x7½, specially bound for the Blackheath Captain in 1897, ¾ red morocco & cloth, decorated & lettered in gilt on front cover and spine, ruled in gilt, raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt; bound by Zaehnsdorf. First Edition.

A unique specially bound Captain's copy. The Captain of Blackheath in 1897 was William A. Adam and in 1898 G. Spurling, as noted in Henderson & Stirk's Royal Blackheath book. Blackheath is the oldest golf club in England, and this chronicle is the first published history of any club, consisting of extracts from the minute books and records of the clubs, along with portraits of members and pictures of the club. This year, 2008, marks the 400 year anniversary of the world's oldest sporting institution, Blackheath. Murdoch 376; D&M 2890; D&J H26260 (this specially bound copy not listed or mentioned).
