Autograph letter signed to "My Dear Johnson Price"

Frémont, John C.

New York

August 16, 1883

1½ pp. manuscript letter, signed by John C. Fremont.  20x13 cm (8x5").

Fremont urges his correspondent to fuel support among investors to seize control of a valuable Mexican property. Fremont, who had made and lost several fortunes, exerted himself late in life to raise investment capital for various huge railroad and real estate schemes. While the letter is signed by Fremont, it is in the hand of an amanuensis: his wife Jessie, who "wrote by hand long communications for Fremont to sign regarding Mexican claims."
