Papier-maché (or thermo-plastic?) raised relief map printed in black & blue, in protective cardboard frame, set in original printed boards folder with cloth spine, ribbon tie. Overall 23.5x28.5x1.8 cm (9¼x11¼x¾").

Rare relief map of New Hampshire's White Mountains region. Cover of case features travel information about the White Mountains, featuring guidebook titles published by Snow. Inside cover contains railroad advertisement for Eastern Railroad. The title on map reads "Map of the White Mountains, N.H. Based on the best surveys." This is the earliest known raised relief map produced in the United States. The earliest known commercially produced raised relief maps were done in Germany in 1865. OCLC/WorldCat lists three examples, at the New Hampshire Historical Society; the University of New Hampshire; and Brown University.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
