8 lithographs, offset lithographs, etchings, photogravures and woodcuts by Richard Avedon, Willem & Elaine de Kooning, Jim Dine, Jane Freilicher, Alex Katz, R. B. Kitaj and Larry Rivers, 12" vinyl record by Ashbery. Loose sheets, housed in a brushed stainless steel movie canister with convex mirror at center. (Folio) 49 cm (19") diameter. No. 16 of 175 copies, 150 of which were issued for sale.
The poem many consider John Ashbery's masterpiece, complemented by eight original signed prints by: Richard Avedon, Elaine de Kooning, Willem de Kooning, Jim Dine, Jane Freilicher, Alex Katz, R.B. Kitaj, and Larry Rivers. Includes a signed foreword to the poem written by John Ashbery to accompany this edition. Also a 33 1/3 LP recording of a rare John Ashbery 1975 reading of the poem, housed in a gatefold sleeve by Helen Vendler, whose essay appears as liner notes across three sides of the sleeve. This is a fine press work: the poem is handset yet laid out in a circular format, each line radiating from the center, so that the pages are literally "turned" to be read. 40 leaves on paper specially made at the Twinrocker Mill in Indiana, unfinished edges. Arion Press Catalogue item #13. A scarce and truly unique issue.
