Frontis and 10 plates. Large 12mo, modern dark green morocco by MacDonald of New York, marbled paper boards, gilt decorated and lettered spine, t.e.g. Original cloth spine bound in the rear.  Ninth edition, as stated on the title page.

The impressive history of Native Americans by New England antiquary, bookseller and publisher Samuel G. Drake (1798-1875), which served as source-book for authors like Nathaniel Hawthorne, George Bancroft and Jared Sparks. The Book of the Indians was first published as Indian Biography in 1833. The eighth and ninth editions contain several handsome engraved portraits of Osceola, Joseph Thayendandeken, Patalesharoo, Pocahontas and others which are not in the earlier editions.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
