WorldCat locates five copies, only one in California. Surviving copies of the fragile booklet often appear missing the wrappers and are thus mis-catalogued as “To the Philippines”, the second half of the title which appears on the title page.

General MacArthur kept his “I shall return” pledge when he slogged ashore at Leyte on October 1, 1944. The text, which was careful to avoid racist overtone of the past, includes  notes “about the people” and “what does the Filipino think of you” glossed over the Aguinaldo rebellion, insisted that the Filipino people  were not “naked savages”, but “generous and hospitable”, had complete “trust” in the United States, gave Americans their “unreserved friendship”, considered America “the greatest country in the world” with  its soldiers representing “the finest people in the world” – and even praised the fighting spirit of the belligerent  Islamic Moros,
