Best known today perhaps as the collaborator with Mark Twain on the pointed American political satire "The Gilded Age", Warner was a popular essayist, novelist, and travel writer who in his capacity as owner and editor of the Hartford Courier and later Harper's New Monthly Magazine, became one of the most important literary tastemakers in late 19th century America.
