Description:

Typed letter, with numerous interlinear corrections and additions, most secretarial but some in Bruce's hand. 4 pp. Unsigned. 28x21.5 cm (11x8½").

Fascinating, unrecorded and previously unknown letter from Lenny Bruce to United States President Lyndon B. Johnson, decrying the pending senatorial legislation to classify "amphetimines [sic], such as dexydrine, diet pills or pep pills" among dangerous drugs such as heroin. "If the bill is passed it will create an unfair and present danger to the rights of people.” Bruce discusses at some length the psychology of addiction. The LBJ Presidential Library seems not to have a copy of this letter.
