[2], 9 pp. Printed in red and black wth light green borders. (Folio) light blue wrappers lettered in dark blue; housed in custom blue cloth chemise stamped in gilt. One of 200 copies. First Edition.

Signed by the author on the first page to Alfred Sutro, and dated "San Francisco, November 19, 1925." With Alfred Sutro's armorial bookplate mounted on the inner front wrapper. Alfred Sutro was long a member of the California Historical Society and was a President of The Book Club of California. Though the date 1928 is stamped on the outer chemise, the volume was inscribed in 1925, and the copyright page states 1918.

Witter Bynner, poet, was a conscientious objector during WWI and, as alternative service, taught English at the University of California, Berkeley. This short piece, "A Canticle of Praise", was composed by him to celebrate the end of the war and was performed in the Hearst Greek Theatre before approximately 8,000 people.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
