Color reproduction of the painting by Nathaniel Dance. 49x39 cm (19¼x15½"), linen mat with gilt liner, wooden fram, under glass. Overall 85x70 cm (33½x27½").

A three-quarter-length portrait of Captain Cook, seated to the left, facing the right. He sat for this portrait, commissioned by Sir Joseph Banks, 'for a few hours before dinner' on 25 May 1776 but it is not known whether he did so again before he left London on 24 June for his third voyage, never to return..." - from the National Maritime Museum website. Undoubtedly the most famous portrait of James Cook.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
