Codrington M.A. With etched added pictorial tite, full-page etched coat of arms of William Earle of Devonshire (the dedicated), & 110 half-page etchings, illustrative of the fables, by William Barlow; the Life of Aesop with 31 full-page copper-engraved plates by Thomas Dudley. (Folio) 31.3x19 cm (12¼x7½"), period mottled calf, raised spine bands. 

Rare illustrated Aesop from the seventeenth century, with captivating illustrations. The half-page etchings have, ln the lower plate margin, the fables and morals engraved in English; beneath the plate are the fables an morals in Latin, printed letterpress, and on the facing page the fables and morals are printed in French.

Spine and extremities rubbed and worn, front joint cracked and quite weak, rear joint tender; p.9-10 in the Fables (leaf H1) torn along gutter affecting a few words, old paper repair; overall very good.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
