60 volumes.  Engraved plates from the original etchings and engravings by Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz") and other illustrators mounted on India paper, including; all with tissue-guards. Each volume with watercolors by Kyd, some volumes with original watercolors by an unattributed artist. (8vo) 10x6¾, full red levant morocco, covers and spines decoratively tooled in gilt, cover ornaments with blue morocco onlays, raised bands, inner gilt dentelles, green morocco doublures decoratively stamped in gilt with red and black morocco floral onlays, moiré silk endpapers, all edges gilt. No. 11 of 15 numbered sets. "Edition Definitive."

Sumptuous set, elegantly produced and beautifully bound. Included with the set, as issued, is an autographed letter signed by Charles Dickens tipped-in to a flyleaf of Vol. I, dated 7 August, 1851. Tipped in to another flyleaf is a cancelled check with Dickens' signature. 

Lot Amendments

Spines sunned a bit, with rubbing at spine ends, some volumes stained; dampstaining to a few volumes, front hinge of Volume I starting, a few detached plates; manuscript letter with dampstaining and smudged ink, check with minor dampstains; overall very good or better.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
