Alfred Andrew Cohen (1829-1887) was California pioneer, founder of the San Francisco & Alameda Railroad, and one of the most famous San Francisco lawyers of the 19th century; also (somewhat anomalistically in view of his arguments in the present booklet), sometime confidential adviser and special council to “The Big Four,” founders of the Central Pacific Railroad. OCLC locates five copies, at the Huntington Library; Yale University, the University of Michigan, Southern Methodist University, and the American Antiquarian Society.
