[1 ad], [2], 233, [1 blank] + [4 ad] pp. 18.5x12 cm (7¼x4¾"), tan cloth, stamped in red, black and gilt, top edge stained yellow. First Edition, Second Issue.

Crane's most enduring work, a high spot of American literature dealing with the American Civil War. Second issue, with top edges yellow, ad for the novel opposite title page, type not broken but a bit battered on last line of p. 225, first page of ads titled "Gilbert Parker's Best Books," the final ad being for "The Three Musketeers." With the decorative bookplate of Edward M. Crane, early Xmas gift inscription on front flyleaf. BAL 4071; Stallman 2.
