Nice example of this extremely detailed map, crisp and clean. The map covers from Detroit west to the Pacific, well into Canada and south to about the 39th parallel and the Great Salt Lake. Features include the Pony Express route, overland mail routes, Fremont's exploration routes and dates, proposed and existing railroads, wagon roads, forts and much more. Along the top is a profile of the Northern Pacific Route across the country. It was issued as a separate folding map; in the 1867 government report Memorial, &c. Northern Pacific Railroad; in an 1868 report published by the New York Chamber of Commerce; and in pocket map format. The present example was once folded, now flattened.
