The great archaeologist and discoverer of Troy writes to an unidentified correspondent: "Sir, In answer to your note I regret you came so late, for I intend going tomorrow night to the Thermopylae and am overwhelmed with work. But most likely I shall show tomorrow at 2 p.m. to Mrs. and Mrs. Pfeiffer the Mycenean Collection, and you might join us there. I shall ask them and let you know tonight..." Dated "26 Jany 1883 (Athens)" in lower left, in lighter ink (or possibly pencil?).
