The American Golfer was a leading golf magazine of the early 20th century and precursor to modern publications like Golf Magazine and Golf Digest. It was founded in 1908 by Walter J. Travis, who also served as its editor from 1908-1920. From there Grantland Rice was the editor until 1936. It includes news, feature articles, results and photography, and was published from 1908 to 1936. Serves as a fascinating research tool, with a wealth of articles, photographs and art by leading golf writers and artists of the day, reporting on leading golfers. These early issues are especially difficult to come by.
