Called by Quebedeaux "Extremely rare," located in only six institutional libraries by OCLC/WorldCat. "Auburn's population by 1875 was only about 1000/ but, since the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, the Lake Tahoe resort area had become increasingly popular along with other nearby resorts in Placer County. Thus, a new directory was needed - and a descriptive promotional work as well. Both came to fruition in this county directory published by the Placer Weekly Argus, little-known because of its rarity" - Quebedeaux 42; Howes P404; Rock 6259.
