Rare brochure for the first race at the newly opened Los Angeles Motor Speedway, also known as the Beverly Hills Motor Speedway, built on what is currently Beverly Hills High School, the Regent Beverly Wilshire and many shops and homes on the 275 acres then called Beverly Drive West. Oddly, the date on the brochure for this premier race is February 21, but records seem to indicate the first race was February 28 - perhaps there was a last minute delay in construction and the race was postponed. The drivers are pictured and listed, with short biographical sketches and indication of their vehicles. Among them: Legendary Ralph De Palma winner of the 1915 Indianapolis 500, who won about 2000 races in all; Ralph Mulford, first winner of Indianapolis 500 in 1911; Russell "Cliff" Durant, son of William C. Durant, the founder of General Motors, a co-owner and president of the Beverly Hills Speedway; Tommy Milton, the first two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500; James Murphy, American Racing Champion in 1922 and 1924, etc. OCLC/WorldCat lists no copies.
