Lacking Volume 4, the atlas volume. Illustrated with engraved portraits of Lewis & Clark; facsimiles of letters from each of them 9¼x6, original green cloth, spines lettered in gilt. No. 996 of 1000 copies.

The most scholarly of the various editions of the work first published in 1814, with extensive footnotes and other amenities. Howes L317.

Condition:

Spines leaning, some soiling to cloth, hinges cracked or cracking; title page in Volume 1 partially detached; good.
