[6], 41, [1] pp. Frontispiece portrait; 4 facsimiles of letters. 19x12.5 cm. (7½x5"), original full straight-grained flexible morocco stamped in gilt on front cover, top edge gilt, with custom-made half red morocco and cloth slipcase, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, raised bands, cloth chemise. First Edition.

Inscribed “H.T.B. Jacquelin, F. Gray Griswold" on the presentation leaf at front. Bookplate of Herbert Ten Broeck Jacquelin. General Cass was Griswold's great grandfather.

Condition:

Slipcase stained at lower edge; slight scuffing to extremities, else very good or better.
