Joe Garrity of North Kingstown, RI, was a lifelong golfer, a member of Exeter Country Club, and an avid collector. He focused on golf books and his Bernard Darwin collection is one of the most comprehensive in existence today. Joe’s expertise in this area led him to author a chapter in “Aspects of Collecting Golf Books,” published in 1996.
As a longtime member of the Golf Collectors Society with GCS #761, he was good friends with Joe Murdoch. He traveled extensively to golf courses in both the USA and UK, and was a frequent attendee of GCS annual meetings.
Joe was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean war, received a BA degree in history from Providence College, and retired in 1988 as a Captain in the Providence Fire Department.
